What is the 10-3-2-1-0 Sleep Rule?

Do you feel tired right now?

There are a lot of reasons you could feel tired. From a bad night’s sleep, to nutrient deficiencies and to stress.

You’re also more likely to feel tired in the winter because of reduced sunlight exposure increasing melatonin.

Being tired is a normal part of the human experience, but do you think it should be, or is do you think being tired is too normal in our society?

Hi 👋 my name is Laura Mai and I’m a marketing consultant looking to make ethical marketing easy in the areas of DEI, sustainability and human health. This week you voted on Instagram to learn how you know if you're more tired than the average person.

According to Harvard Health, you should be concerned if:

💡 often wake up exhausted despite sleeping well

✨ do not feel motivated to start your day

😢 struggle to do easy or normal tasks

The problem is chronically undersleeping is normal. A third of US Adults don’t get enough sleep according to CNN, and that was just the people awake enough to take the study.

Do you feel like that’s broad enough to capture all the ill effects of sleep? Or are we just desensitised to the effects of bad sleep?

Do you want to fix your sleep?

I was glad you voted for this blog post this week, because being jet lagged, this is something I've been struggling with too.

Will you take on a challenge with me for one week to improve your sleep?

The Sleep Rule: 10-3-2-1-0

10 hours before bed: No more caffeine.

3 hours before bed: No more food or alcohol.

2 hours before bed: No more work.

1 hour before bed: No more screen time (shut off all phones, TVs and computers).

0: The number of times you hit snooze in the morning.

Are you joining this one week challenge? If you are then sign up for my emails where I'll be including updates on this challenge along with my content challenge.
